Decadent Butterscotch Sauce for Bread Pudding
1/2 c unsalted butter
1 c brown sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 t vanilla
1/4 - 1/2 cup rum, bourbon, cream, or whipping cream (see note at end of recipe)
In a small pot, bring butter and brown sugar to a boil, and boil for one minute. Remove from heat, and stir in the remaining ingredients until well combined. Serve warmed over bread pudding.
N.B. Add the lesser amount of thin liquids (like rum) or the greater amount of thick liquids (like whipping cream). Use your judgement and taste as you go.
